MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 2004--GlobeTel Communications Corp. (OTCBB:GTEL) today announced that Sanswire Networks, LLC (Sanswire), its wholly-owned subsidiary, will be holding a partners and technology summit in California on January 20 and 21, 2005.
The summit was scheduled as a result of significant interests shown by the media, potential customers, investor groups and the US Army and to create a commercial strategy for the deployment of Sanswire's High Altitude Platform (HAP), the Stratellite.
Attendance will be by pre-approved invitation only. For more information and to arrange to attend the summit, interested parties should contact Leigh Coleman at the contact information below.
Sanswire has been contacted by the U.S. Army's Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) which expressed its desire to be involved in the sharing of technology and information as well as possible involvement in the development of the Stratellite. In addition to the commercial applications being developed by GTEL, the SMDC sees several military intelligence gathering and operational applications for Stratellite-type systems.
Stewart Stout, a member of the SMDC, stated, "The Army is interested in this type of capability. We would like to start an interchange of ideas and technologies for stratospheric airships. Technologies like the Stratellite can be used for numerous military applications such as a battlefield resource, border control and surveillance, communications and homeland security. We look forward to attending the conference."

Timothy Huff, CEO of GTEL, stated, "At the conference, the Sanswire engineering team will be available to answer questions concerning the Stratellite itself, the communications capability, power and guidance capabilities, and earth station command and control. In addition to the SMDC, attendees will include representatives of other divisions of the military, several Latin American telecommunications companies, our Israeli and German technology partners, several corporate concerns and investor groups. On the eve of the launch of Sanswire One, we want to align our partnerships and start to build the strategic plans for the deployment of this technology. We believe that the technology is an important issue but choosing the correct partner and scope to start such a journey is as important."
A Stratellite is similar to a satellite, but is stationed in the stratosphere rather than in orbit. At an altitude of 10 to 13 miles above the Earth, each Stratellite will have clear line-of-site communications capability to an entire major metropolitan area as well as being able to provide coverage across major rural areas. Several Stratellites linked together could cover many hundreds of thousands of square miles. The Stratellite will allow subscribers to easily communicate in ``both directions'' using readily available wireless devices. In addition to voice and data, proposed telecommunications uses include cellular, 3G/4G mobile, MMDS, paging, fixed wireless telephony, HDTV, real-time surveillance and others.
